6 Lessons from Two Blind Men

If you are starting out as a fresher, or moving to a new organization, there is always this ‘fear of the unknown‘. Employees need to have these qualities to be successful in the long term. Before I begin, sharing a quick scene from the Bible which inspired me to write this post.

Matthew 20:30-34
30 And behold, two blind men were sitting by the wayside when they heard that Jesus was passing by, and they cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Thou Son of David!”
31 And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace; but they cried out the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Thou Son of David!”
32 And Jesus stood still, and called them and said, “What will ye that I shall do unto you?”
33 They said unto Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.”
34 So Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him


The two blind men were on the wayside, they were not there by chance, they knew (because they had heard) about Jesus and stayed on course. They could not see, but had a clear vision of what Jesus was capable of, and waited on the way for an encounter with him.

If you are not aligned with the company’s vision, then you’ll be looking out for a new job sooner than you think. If you lack clarity, you will change tracks too soon and end up frustrated.

What do the company values mean to you? How do you see yourself contributing to the company’s vision? What role do you see yourself in a few years? What are the skill-sets you plan to acquire during the journey? Will your career come in the way of your personal commitments? (A job is, only one of the things in life, not your life.)


The blind men had heard enough about Jesus to believe in him. They waited for the time, and when Jesus came they called out to him by faith for their healing. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Faith is the evidence of things unseen, and the substance of things hoped for. Many prefer to see and believe, but these two blind men kept their faith, believing without seeing.

Believe in the organization/leaders you work for/with. Do your basic research (before you join) on the organization, its leaders, learn to get yourself on board as quickly as possible once you are in. We cannot know everything about a person (leader or team), yet we need to take that step of faith to go forward as one unit to be successful.


The blind men cried for mercy, they knew their sinful state. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. It was because they realized who they were that helped them stay grounded and seek mercy from Jesus whom the Pharisees (proud) and religious (narrow minded) leaders rejected.

Be clear about what you do or do not know. Being transparent enables your manager or leader to plan before any activity. Humility will keep you grounded and teachable. Leaders love learners.


The multitude rebuked them, tried stopping them from meeting Jesus. Yet, they persisted and kept calling out to him.

When you are clear about your vision, stick to the purpose. A purpose driven career bears more fruit than one that has none.


They heard that Jesus was passing by, and they did not hesitate to ask. If they hadn’t asked, they wouldn’t have received their healing.

Many a time, we don’t ask for help when we need it. It’s important to ask. Ask for help. Ask for more resources. Ask to learn. Ask to offer help.


The blind men loved Jesus. The moment they received their sight, they could have been distracted by the world. But, they chose to follow Jesus.

Love your leader. If you don’t learn to follow, you cannot be a leader. As you grow in an organization, you will begin to see your role and your future a lot differently than when you started. You won’t be distracted by other offers, though tempting, may not be right for you.
